This is the September opening of a line that was designed with David Pratt's help and started in January. Gauge-3 G-Scale off the shelf equipment all in British Outline, now that GRS are offering a GWR 'starter set' at around £900. All buildings by British Outline Buildings and suitably weathered.
The line was officially opened 6 months after starting work. Family and friends all enjoyed the day. Even the next door owner of a delightful 16mm railway spent hours operating the digitally controlled trains with the help of a crew of youngsters tempted away from their laptops for a while.
Stage 2 involves another station from the B.O.B. range and their metre high windmill.

Yes, there are, in Nice (I built one) and more interesting, the English Riviera - at Torquay, well Babbacombe to be exact. Like so many model villages there is a railway and has been for 40 years. Last year an LGB shuttle line and 2 tram routes were added as pilots ready for the big push. the plan is to replace the old railway, running hand made Hymek style 'First Trains' past Stonehenge, over bridges (with bungee jumpers) and through the 'Vale of the White Horse' - all at about twentieth scale.
The new railway is likely to remain GWR with gauge-3 from Garden Railway Specialists, and British Outline Buildings garden railway models are already in evidence.
Why go abroad for inspiration, rush down to this model world in a Devon wooded valley. They have even modelled the Olympics construction site with station.
Britains best fish and chip shop is nearby too!

Every day, often with the LGB Pacific SNCF loco at the head, trains run around the Merrivale Model Village on the sea front. in the midst of the twelfth scale buildings the G-Scale trains don’t seem out of place, nor do the British Outline Buildings stations. There are a couple of shuttle lines too, for steam tram, and USA tram rolling stock. You mustn’t miss it – it’s next to the pier!

Situated only about two miles from the Garden Railway Specialists' shop, this windmill is typical of restoration projects up and down the country. This wooden smockmill has passed through many stages in the last three hundred years and the 6mm thick polyresin weatherproof model has idealised the windmill’s best features.
The hut and sails will turn into the wind. These are capable of being motorised (kit available) to turn at scale speeds of about 20rpm. |

The first of a new series, this latest outdoor big-scale model is an often overlooked but essential base for the platelayers who maintained a section of track – in all weathers.
The model is 115H, Base 210L x 140W

This little building faithfully reproduces the gangers life, the scythe for cutting embankment grass even has a sharpening wheel. There is a ‘Boundary Marker’ where another railway company takes over. Typical rubbish lies on the roof, shutters cover the windows for security and a woodpile for warmth. All the detail is moulded into the 6 piece kit itself for easy assembly. This hut is ideal for weatherproofing railway low voltage electrics outdoors.

The latest big scale kit from BRITISH OUTLINE BUILDINGS is an essential yet often forgotten facility – a coaling stage. This highly detailed and realistic model is loosely based on those found at engine depots serving narrow gauge, branch and even main lines. The model suits all the outdoor ‘scenic scales’ – G-Scale, Gauge-3, 16mm. The wood coal stage can be given footplate height by a stone wall mounting, or used at ground level. The sleeper walls are movable, and the sand heap with its tarpaulin covering, bucket – and sand castle - can be used elsewhere as required.
The model kit BO 68 complete with full instructions, colour photo to help in painting is 120W x 345L x 46H and costs under £40 direct from B.O.B.
Over seventy B.O.B. models, ‘often copied, seldom equalled’ are designed to complement large-scale outdoor garden railways in most climates, and the special mix resin is weatherproof. The models are detailed enough for close inspection with the fine details and textures accurately reproduced and they can be further ‘superdetailed’ for diorama exhibition or shop window display purposes, and assembled in ‘custom’ variations while maintaining a family or corporate look. This flexibility is useful for customising a railway.
