Excellent model railway shop. Type of place where you can get all the little bits and pieces that you need. also stocks, scalelectric, warhammer and plastic kits. The owner, dave is always willing to spend time with you, has a very good knowledge of products both new and old. easy access from leytonstone underground and overground stations. parking is free in the side roads after 2pm weekdays and all day sat & sun.

Me and my little boy found this store yesterday and we were in heaven, I have been in other stores like this and have been made to feel very unwelcome but this store was wonderful especially for a very excited 4 year old, we didnt feel as though we were being watched all the time, and as a mum who doesn't know a lot but feels will be learning a lot about making models I was made to feel very welcome and felt that I could ask anything with out being looked down upon. I highly recommend this place and we will be returning in the not to distant future.

The ‘engine shed’ is not only a ‘proper’ model shop but also a fine example of the fast-disappearing, traditional high-street retailer - offering friendly, personal service and expert product and speciality knowledge on an exemplary, impartial basis. The current owner took over the business from an equally experienced but rather eccentric shopkeeper with interpersonal skills somewhat lower on the charm scale than those of T.V.’S victor meldrew and relatively less merchandising prowess than often apparent at jumble sales. Since then, continuous effort has been maintained in bringing some order to the former chaos, broadening days and hours of opening and almost doubling the available floor space. Diversity of stock has increased, particularly that relating to \'N\' gauge. Regular patrons will know that generous, spontaneous discounts tend to be the rule and that additional ‘freebies’ often find their way into more substantial purchases - including complete ‘oo’ locomotives. I cannot commend this business enough and remain baffled as to the criticisms of hythe’s and east kilbride’s reviewers whose objectivity, some might think, seems to have come off the rails. Prospective customers are well-advised to ‘phone in advance on specific product availability and find May themselves pleasantly surprised when competitor outlets are freely suggested, should the ‘engine shed’ prove unable to supply them.

Myself and my four year old son discovered this shop in February 2010, I am a complete novice and the help and advice given has been invaluable, we are regular visitors and will continue to be so. we are always welcome and never feel pressured, this is a great shop full of ideas and very good prices and would always reccommend a visit.
Perhaps the reviewer from east kilbride might be happier in a branch of modelzone or toys 'R' us the engine shed is a proper model shop, filled with unusual and hard to find treasures which require a good degree of pleasurable rummaging. The owner is a modeller and a mine of information and experience. Shops like these are few and far between and should be cherished. Please support them, there's more to shopping than pressing the 'buy' button in your internet shopping cart
