Mayflower Model Rail Show - A Big thank you
Firstly, I would like to extend a massive thank you from myself and my family, as organisers, and from St Helena Hospice, for helping us put on a fantastic day. The range of layouts, traders and the wonderful venue and catering enabled us to put on a fantastic show with double the number of people we had aimed for. In total we had 392 paying guests through the door, plus we had taken the decision not to charge children, so this means we had over 400 people through the door on the day.
On top of this our Tombola was a near sell out with some fantastic prizes donated by a variety of people including Hornby, Peco and Custom Layout Signs, to which I'd like to extend an extra special thank you.
We have had so much positive feedback from the event and it sounds like everyone had a great time.
This morning I took up the £1720.26 we raised in cash on the day, which added to the £100 from Scograil Online and the £200 from Towergate (Ardonagh Community Trust) means we raised £2020.26 for St Helena Hospice, over double what I had as a target amount.
I will now relax, enjoy Christmas and start planning for our N Gauge Show in March in Weeley as well as considering if we repeat the Mayflower Show or not.
Thank you again to every single person who made the show possible and thank you to everyone who supported me in making the show a success.
Kind Regards and have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year from everyone here.

European General Data Protection Regulations 2018
With the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations on the 25th May 2018 the way I have to deal with entries and submissions to the Directory will be changing.
What this means is that I will no longer be able to display information without the express permission of the owners of that information.
Now this will not actually affect 90% of the information in the Directory because the majority of Businesses, Clubs and Societies do submit their own details Online. For those that do, I have an audit trail in the database that shows every Online submission which proves permission has been given to display those details.
Where it will affect submissions is that I will have to strictly enforce the requirement that ALL updates and confirmations will have to be submitted Online and from now I will no longer be able to accept updates or confirmations via email.
The reason for this is because I receive so many emails, about 17, 000 this year so far, that I delete them after dealing with any requirements and there is no audit trail. and this is a fundamental aspect of the GDPR, I need to have an audit trail of where all submissions have come from and that I have permission to display the information given.
The other area where the Directory will be affacted is where either myself or visitors have submitted information about others.
In these cases, whilst I do send out invitations every 6 months until the owner hopefully get's in touch and confirms/updates that info, some people don't respond. Don't ask me why, I could go on for several hours about Businesses that fail to get in touch or send emails demanding to be removed from the Directory.
As of the 22nd Nov 2017 there are 20 shops and 41 suppliers/manufacturers currently listed that have never responded to my invitations, some of them for several years, and these will be affected by the regulations.
What I will be doing in the New Year is emailing those people one last time, then suspending and removing the info from public view.
So if you see an entry saying 'The details.have not been verified by the owners.', these will be the ones affected.
If I can I will try and post a list of these Businesses in the New Year to see if anyone would like to get in touch with them if they wish.
To all those who submit information to the Directory, many thanks for your patience and I hope you understand my situation with the GDPR.

Friendly, helpful, welcoming and competitive. I bought a couple of things that were very reasonably priced. What more could you want in a model shop, or any shop for that matter?
I'd not been here before, but will definitely return next time I'm in Stoke.
Efficient service, bought on-line and received first class post. Well packaged item in good condition. Class 142 Pacer in GMPTE orange livery is now classic enough to keep running. Well pleased. Tony (Morpeth)
Once again I made the long trip north to visit the exceptional Olvia's Trains. I regularly buy from Olivia's as I find all staff knowledgeable and always willing to help. I like to customise my locos, wagons and coaches and the standard of workmanship they do is excellent. I love the Olivia Sound and all but a few have been upgraded to include this great feature. It certainly brings my trains to life and adds that special feature of realism to my layout. I'm busy saving my pennies as I have my eye on a few more great models which will all be converted to sound. Well worth the journey and thanks to everyone. And by the way, the brew was much appreciated on that cold November day. See you all in the New Year.
Hattons has been my go-to supplier since I returned to the hobby 8 years ago and I have never had any problems. Their pre-owned items have proved to be especially good value over recent years as my own refurbishment skills have improved. Also, the online chat option is good for chasing those forever on-order items that we await from the far East.
Tucked in a back street and not east to find this is a little gem. The model railway section is downstairs and not always staffed so you may have ask to go down. Darren who looks after it is extremely helpful and a wizard at repairs and decoder fitting and testing. The stock is much larger than you might expect, and very comprehensive. Discounts are sometime available. It’s rapidly becoming my first port of call.

[Response: "Thank you Richard for your honest review, look forward to seeing you again soon at The Model Shop."]
Great News for Kent Modellers. The Hobby Shop has moved from West Street to a much larger premises at 85 Preston Street, Faversham and remains a modellers "Aladdin's Cave" but now with greater room to view the immense stock. Top Marks to Harvey, the Manager, for making this very bold move and he deserves every success. I have been a very satisfied customer for many years and highly recommend this shop to my fellow modellers. Now worthy and as promised that 10 out of 10!
Excellent service and very helpful staff, I have used Tony's trains for a few years now after meeting him at a model railway exhibition, most of purchases are made through Tony as he looks after me as loyal customer . I have met many model railway dealers in the past but Tony is the one I return to time after time. Keep up the good work.
Tonys Trains & Transport is a fantastic little shop, They always have a great selection on offer, and Tony is a nice chap too! He will order anything in, if you require a certain product, and is often trading at shows around the country. He has fantastic prices, I have bought many great items from there before.
I visited and was surprised to see so many pre-owned locos, coaches, wagons and track. I have never seen so much pre-owned in one shop. The service was brilliant we did a deal on two Britannias. I will be back there again when I visit the area.
We visited the Paignton Model Shop this afternoon and were saddened that the shop had been burgled over the weekend! I live in Scotland and we visit the shop when we visit on holiday. The owners always recognise us and today was no different, as we were asked how we were. It was when we were about to pay for our goods that we discovered that the thief had not only taken thousands of pounds worth of valuable train items but also the credit card machine. The thief was athletic but not a youngster, and had come in through the roof. He forgot to take the cctv camera, so with luck he will be found! I love this shop as we are never pressured into buying but usually do. They sell N gauge as well as the bigger gauges. We buy our paints and brushes too for our other hobby, aircraft models and Games Workshop models. Ordering is available and I could get items delivered to my home in Scotland.
Great model shop not only for model railway enthusiasts this shop has a great selection of the latest plastic kits by the top manufactures & is a great place to look for bargains as if you are prepared to delve in the mountain of kits I loved it can't wait to go back it reminded me of hobby shops of old.
A fantastic model railway shop with a very comprehensive range of RTR stock in both N and OO gauge. Scenic and building kits from all major suppliers. DCC decoder / Sound fitting service available.
To me though the best thing about this shop is the owner who being a modeller himself gladly gives advice and assistance with great friendliness and patience.
Visited Caistor Loco while visiting a friend in the town last month. Typical old-school model shop - stuff stashed in every nook and cranny with a welcoming proprietor who knows what and where everything is, and also what's sold out! Picked up some reasonably priced discontinued whitemetal kits to try out from the bargain box. Will definitely call again when next in town.
Always pop in when over Ilkeston. Always happy to help you and if anything is not in stock then Malc will try and order it in for as soon as possible
