- Growing Up in Liverpool in Early 1960'S
Mon 21st October 2019
The Greenbank Sports Academy,
Greenbank Road, Liverpool, Merseyside L17 1AG
OPENING TIMES: MONDAY ONLY, 7.45pm
This evening we are proud to introduce Ms Val Young with a variation to our normal themes. We are the longest currently active TLRS Branch outside the Home Counties. As part of celebrating our local history Ms Val Young will talk about her personal experiences of growing up in the City whose slogan in 1960s and 1970s was "A City of change and challenge" |
There has been a Chinese community in Liverpool for over a hundred and fifty years. In fact, since the development of sea trade and the growth of the dock system, Liverpool has long been regarded as having a cosmopolitan population. Many families came to make a new and better life for themselves, leaving behind, perhaps, oppression and poverty. Initially, their lives were not a "bed of roses" here, but as decades have passed, conditions have improved and Liverpool's Chinatown is now a thriving district and a mecca for tourists and locals alike. This evening's speaker, well known within her community, gives us a personal insight into growing up in the City during the mid 1960's.
