Railex now a major must visit shows in the exhibition calendar takes place over the Whitsun bank holiday weekend. Now in it's forth year at the massive 20 000 square foot, fully disabled assessable Stoke Mandeville Stadium. This years Railex is possibly the best yet, and will bring together a whole host of large headlining layouts including Dewsbury Midland, the Gresley Beat, Thornbury Hill and a rare appearance of the stunning O gauge layout Bucks Hill.
It will be the first time ever that more than two of these large layouts have appeared at the same show at the same time.
The smaller layouts are equally impressive with the atmospheric Maindee East engine shed and the following that have all appeared in Railway Modeller Stoney Lane Depot by Grahame Hedges (March 2008), Fisherton Sarum and Farkham.
As in previous year nearly fifty traders or manufactures are supporting Railex many of these being of specialist nature selling those hard to obtain bits and pieces and not seen at other general shows .
There is also demonstration area where some of the best modellers will be showing how it’s done including Railway Modeller contributor Paul Marshal Potter who is on hand to demonstrate his weathering techniques.
Although a massive show Railex has a very relaxed feel about it, even when busy, as wide gangways and good circulation areas provide easy viewing of all exhibits and demonstration areas
For more information a fully updated website lists everything about the show including exhibits, traders to parking and bus service information from the town centre.
Sunday only, up to two accompanied children can be admitted free with a paying adult or senior.
If coming by car It is recommended that all Railex visitors head for the adjacent William Harding School (access off A413 Wendover Road) this has ample free parking and is for the exclusive use of Railex visitors plus is less than a five minute walk via a pedestrian link to the exhibition.
Aylesbury is easy to get by car from most parts of central and southern England if coming from the north use the M40/A41, from the south M25/A41 and west A34/A41. Aylesbury is also served by a fast and efficient Chiltern Railways service from London Marylebone, Birmingham and the north.
