Warmington

Modern Image, OO Gauge

Railway Sign

'Warmington' is the name of Erith Model Railway Society's newest exhibition standard layout.

Built by members of the club, to 4mm or 'OO' scale, this end-to-end layout represents a popular southern England, four platform seaside terminus, set in the modern day.

Passenger Trains serving Warmington consist of peak commuter and off-peak locals, formed of a variety of third rail Electric Multiple Units and longer distance Diesel Multiple Units in Network Southeast, South West Trains and various regional liveries.

There are also regular Inter-regional services of a weekend, operated by Virgin Trains, bringing in scores of day-trippers and tourists from all over the United Kingdom.

These services are currently worked by ageing Class 47 Diesel Locomotives, sometimes hired in from EWS, with MkII coaches, until their replacement with new Virgin Voyager Diesel Multiple Units soon!

Royal Mail services are also regular visitors, scheduled to arrive during the day and usually Class 67 hauled.

Railway dignitaries often visit Warmington for seminars in a local, high quality hotel. They usually arrive in a plush EWS Director's Saloon worked by an EWS or RES locomotive.

A fuelling facility is provided for visiting Inter-regional Locomotives and Diesel Multiple Units. These are sometimes stabled here for minor servicing, exams and fuelling between duties.

The yard at the east side of the station is host to a variety of freight services, and is an open access Road/Rail exchange facility, used by operators such as EWS and Freightliner.

Warmington Freight Yard receives traffic from all over the United Kingdom and sometimes from overseas, via the Channel Tunnel.

Goods arrive in closed vans for off loading with a forklift, to continue the last leg of their journey by road.

A wide variety of freight Traction & Rolling Stock can be seen at Warmington, representing all of the major operators and their latest hardware, often in the form of Class 66s.

Amongst Warmington’s many attributes, it is a popular exhibition layout as it is easily transportable and provides a window on modern railway operations, which we can all relate to in one way or another, provided with minimum fuss and maximum effort, from a dedicated team of Erith Model Railway Society members.
