Erith Model Railway Society
Southern/BR Southern Region - 1930s-1960s.
This layout was initially started by Arthur Adams, former EMRS Honorary Vice President, hence its name. It was bought by an EMRS club member about a year before Arthur's death with the intention of completing it in such a way as he could use it to run his own stock, which is mainly of the period between 1951 and 1964. Following Arthur's death and the acquisition of most of his stock, the club member decided to change the layout to include third rail and to 'Southernise' it, making it a real homage to Arthur.
The layout comprises of a four track main line in a cutting passing a signal box between two tunnel entrances. From the layout's point of view, the name Adams Row comes from the area, which can be any rural location in England, where the housing and amenities were built for the workers of the Adams Brothers' Explosives factory, which is on the right of the set-up. It is now in a run-down state, but the housing is still there.
If you would like Adams Row to attend an event or display in your area, please do not hesitate to contact our Layouts Coordinator via the Contact Us page.
